8 December 1862: Monday

Confederacy - Government
President Davis, concerned over the several threats to the Confederacy, writes to General Lee at Fredericksburg: "In Tennessee and Mississippi the disparity between our armies and those of the enemy is so great as to fill me with apprehension." He announced his intention to go west immediately.As to Lee's desire to cconcentrate forces to defend Richmond, Davis regretted he could do so little to help him as to manpower.

Union - Military
Virginia

A Union reconnaissance takes place from Suffolk to the Blackwater. There are also skirmishes at and about Zuni from December 8-12.
