General Joseph E. Johnston assumes over-all command in the West.

Virginia

There is a skirmish on the Rappahannock River near Port Royal, not far from Fredericksburg in the north of Virginia.

Tennessee
There is skirmishing on the Franklin Pike and near Stewart's Ferry on Stone's River.

Mississippi
There are skirmishes near Oxford and Water Valley.

Arkansas
There are skirmishes around Cane Hill and Reed's Mountain.

Indian Territory
There are skirmishes in Cherokee County

Kentucky
At Prestonburg, Confederates capture some supply boats with arms, ammunition and unforms.

There is a skirmish near Floyd County.

Military/Civilian - Union
Minnesota
Citizens attack Indian prisoners at Mankato.
