Union - Military
Virginia

Union troops under Nathanial Banks advance up the Shenandoah Valley from Harper's Ferry toward Winchester, Virginisa, and General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's command.

There is a skirmish north of Winchester.

There is a skirmish at Pohick Church, near Washington.

Confederacy - Military
Tennessee
In the West, General Beauregard at Jackson, Tennessee assumes command of the Confederate Army of the Mississippi, a "sprawled out army" meant to defend the Mississippi.

Arkansas
In Northwest Arkansas, General Earl Van Dorn has joined GEneral Sterling Price in an effort to stop Union forces under SAmuel Curtis, whose vastly superior forces had previously pushed Price out of Missouri. Van Dorn decided to attack, and quickly concentrated his forces beyond Fayetteville and Elm Springs.

Meanwhile, General Albert Sydney Johnston's forces were moving west from Murfeesboro, Tennessee toward Corinth, Mississippi, to block the Union move up the Tennessee.

Union - Military
Tennessee
The first of a large Union force under General Charles Ferguson Smith arrives at Savannah, Tennessee,northeast of Corinth, soon followed by 80 troop transports and three gunboats.
